Five-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman will lead a special celebration honoring the 25th anniversary of the iconic dance film Center Stage in partnership with Open Jar Studios and The Stage Door Foundation.
As reported by BroadwayWorld, the multi-part event will begin with a masterclass at 5:30pm where Stroman, alongside associate James Gray, will teach participants the famous, "Higher Ground," Jazz class combination.
Following the masterclass, attendees will enjoy an interactive "Dance-A-Long" screening experience created by Leah Hofmann (Stroman's associate director), complete with a costume contest and special surprises.
"I think Center Stage remains beloved today because it was one of the first dance movies to give an honest depiction of the life of a professional dancer in New York City," says Stroman. "Dance is the star of the movie. Much of the choreography is shot head to toe, so the camera takes the time to honor the body of the dancer."
The event can be attended in-person or virtually. In-person tickets for both the 90-minute masterclass and interactive screening are $25, while tickets to the screening alone are $15. Virtual attendance for the masterclass is available for $15 via livestream. All proceeds benefit the Stage Door Foundation.
